 you remember that? "if it tastes just like chicken, why not just eat chicken?" I say this after reading a zillion FR's [even some by me, jerk that I am] for making reaper be 'just like the DAW' we had been used to using before trying reaper. How many time have we seen "I want it to do what PT does, or what Qbase does, or what Sonar does"... and I want the same hot keys for all those things... Errrr... WTF guys? If you want chicken, why not just stay with the DAW had before you tried reaper? It already does all that, so why don't you love it???? It's sorta like saying, "I want my next girl-friend\wife to be exactly like the last one that I just divorced\got-dumped by... huh? Reaper offers so much more freedom of choice and so many more ways to make it do what you want via custom actions, etc. than those other DAW's... BUT ya gotta do a little learning curve and a little thinking in new ways.... So, hey... thats the FR... more open mindedness for the users! hahaha... I hope that will happen in the next version :D
FR's are not to make Reaper into that DAW, but to make Reaper do the one great thing abot that DAW. All DAW's have advantages and disadvantages, some contradicting each other in various ways that will work against the way the users work. To own and know them all is just not practically possible, if you need to actually get things done in the meantime, so you can get paid, and buy them all ;)
...Can I get some potatoes with my chicken? Btw about 80% of all DAW features are the same, the difference is mostly in the GUI. So when we have the "complete" set of features, then we may build any DAW in the world using Reaper as a ReaDAW Framework, then evolve from there on.

amen to what gofer says.... Personally I find the Cockos attitude of rapid updates and of listening to requests and implementing them quickly totally unique in the DAW world. It's just wonderful IMHO! Some of what was said by the 'non-fan-boy' :D is exactly my point in this topic... Reaper is it's own unique event... there is nothing else like it, both as regards the developers and the app itself. Why insist that it be something other? Why did 'you' come to it and what other DAW did you use previously and why were you not happy with that DAW? I mean hey, if you were so happy with 'that DAW' why did you even go looking for something else??? Also, IMHO, sure... the extensions and actions can certainly be daunting at times... but hey, ...that's a double edged sword, you know? I mean at least they exist and users who want to bother can set up some amazing custom functions. Can you do that in PT, Qbase, Sonar, etc.? I happily look forward to 4.0, 5.0, 6.0 etc! Bring it ON!
I fully agree with your conclusions but of course somebody always has to drop in afterward and start making illogical direct comparisons and daw wars. If we start asking "Can Reaper do that?" and grabbing cherries from Live, Nuendo, Samp and similar we'll be here a long time and the list of "cannot do's" will be quite long. It's not about "can do". It's about "does it do what *you* need it to do"... which varies wildly from person to person. No daw I own does everything I need it to do... not in the way I'd prefer or in a way that eases frustration across the board ... or in a way that doesn't take forever doing some things. They all have issues in some ways and they all require minor (or sometimes major) workarounds for some people. The closest one for me is Vegas... re: a thing almost being 100% perfect for what I need it to do, for what I use it for. It's only real shortcoming for me is lack of side chaining. There is always something...
Let me see if I have this right. According to the diagram below, my backside (properly seasoned and cooked of course) would taste like like Sunday ham? Fascinating... :D
Did I get you wrong? In fact I often don't understand your posts, (like the ones of Pipelineaudio and some others), but I also think it is more on my side, due to my limited English vocabulary. -Data
