Track input

So, I updated to the most recent version of Reaper and now I can't assign a channel to a track. via input tab Anyone know why or what I might be missing or doing wrong? And I did go into the preferences and assigned one there but nothing. In fact I don't think it knew what track I wanted to use. I sure hope I get this figured out. I'm so frustrated

What happens when you click on input? Can you post a screen shot? And of your audio device preference settings?

I'm sure I can. I will do that tomorrow and send some pictures. I have watched the videos and something is not right. I'll explain tomorrow when I add the pictures. Thank you for your time and response. It is seriously appreciated I now have hope.
