How to start reaper playback from external input?

Ok, but the backing track player does not generate timecode. Hmm. How is the backing track triggered? If the backing track player can send audio, can it receive audio or timecode? Can reaper play the backing track, or send timecode to the backing track player (making Reaper the Master)?

Well I can get reagate to trigger at a threshold from the backing track and send a midi note on and off (the off will Be a problem) however I cannot yet get the action to trigger play. It triggers from a midi keyboard but not from the reagate instance.
