I have a Blaupunk Travelpilot E1 qhich i bought when i started to travel round the country. I want to put it in my 1986 760 Turbo. I need a reverse signal (i presme i just take that from the microswitch off the gear lever) It also needs a speedo signal. I have no idea where the best place is to get a signal from. If anyone has ever fitted one of these / or has knowledge of these - I would be very greatful!

dont worry about the reverse signal, I've never bothered with any of my satnav installations. you should find there's a spade connector on the back of the instrument cluster (if it's the same style cluster as a 940) , this gives a speedo signal output and is also used for cruise control

The reverse signal can be taken from the reversing light. This simply lets the system know that any movement is in the reverse direction rather than you having turned around. There is a site somewhere which gives all the speed sensor connections for most vehicles. Cannot remember the address. you may find it by Googling "speed sensor" or something similar. It gives the wire colour and where it is located but it appears to have been translated from German and therefore needs to be interpreted from the English translation to real English, if you know what I mean. If I can remember it's name this afternoon I will post the link.

just remove the two screws that are by the clock adjustment and dash dimmer. You should see two black plastic bits, take them off with a small screwdriver and away you go. To run a cable to your head unit, you may need to remove the trim panel under the steering colume but again, there are a couple of screws near the top and the panel just pulls forward and off. Just remember to unplug everything on it.
