Hi all, I find my S40 to be extremely noisy and this has been the case almost from day 1 (now 12 y.o with 315'000km). My main 2 complaints come from: - engine noise: what is causing my engine to be noisier at 120km (around 3100rpm) than at higher speeds??? Engine mounts have been changed, the engine is OK, exhaust and intake do not appear to leak but the noise at 120km/h is just unbearable (mix of resonance and road noise). I even used soundproofing material in the car but it didn't help at all. Would be please to find ways to lower the noise or at least make it less intrusive (actually I'd be pleased if that car made the same noise at 120km/h that it does at 140km/h.....so you can imagine the problem :) - windnoise: very loud windnoise come from the windscreen somewhere. Nothing to do with the mirrors (I filled the gaps with silicon). May the vent grid on top of the hood just below the windshield cause the windnoise?? The noise starts pretty much at 60km/h and on highway with external lateral wind, it becomes just awful. Any hint about it? - road noise: may be related to tyres. I will soon get new Michelin Energy Saver summer tires. Hope it will help a bit. All in all that phase1 S40 (1997 model, 2.0 atmospheric engine) is really extremely noisy but I'd like to keep it for a good while so I'm looking at ways to improve things slightly before getting deaf! Any suggestion welcome!
