Right. as someone who has 5 new Bosch injectors waiting to go into my V70 I thought I would phone a mate who runs a diagnostic centre to see what the trade does when this happens. Here is what he said. Firstly, the poor starting is down to excess leak back flow. Apparently the system has to see 250 bar before the injectors get switched on. This is no problem at idle speed and above, but can be a problem at cranking speed when the injectors are worn - hence the starting problem Secondly. The tolerances in these injectors are now so tight that normal production procedures cannot meet the tolerances, so they are effectively flowed after production and graded according to performance. This leads to Volvo putting a serial number on which indicates the grade. As long as all are the same grade, its no problem. The bosch aftermarket injectors are apparently not graded but are tested before leaving the factory and all meet a certain tolerance. This bears no relation to the volvo grading, so the bottom line is that you cannot mix Bosch aftermarket and Volvo injectors. If I replace all 5 with Bosch ones, it should work fine. It may run a bit rough for up to 400 miles while the ECU's adaptive nature learns the new injectors, but after that, its fine. lastly, apparently if injectors do need coding, any Bosch service centre who has a KTS 650 machine can code them. They do not need to go back to Volvo. So, I will have a go at changing all 5. If it works, then fine and I will report back. If not, I will search out a Bosch dealer with a KTS and get them coded. Either way I will not take the car to Volvo.. Martin
